Congenital Penile Curvature

Congenital penile curvature, or chordee, is a common problem and can result in the abnormal bending of the erect penis – upwards, downwards, left or right.

Treatment
When the curvature is painful and/or impacts sexual satisfaction and intercourse, surgical repair is recommended.  Chordeecana be recognized and surgically addressed in childhood, and may be associated with other penile abnormalities such as hypospadias or epispadias.  If the chordee persists into adulthood, correction of the curvature can be surgically performed.

How is the surgery peformed
The penis is degloved through the old circumcision scar and the skin attachments released.  An artificial erection is achieved after the intracavernosal injection of saline and the urethra is examined as well as the corpora caverenosa to identify the possible areas to be remedied.

Penile placation may be indicated, whereby the longer side of the penis is plicated by the careful placement of suture to result in a minimal of penile shortening.
